A band of heavy rain is moving into Finland from the south on Tuesday, bringing prolonged showers across southern and eastern parts of the country, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).
FMI duty meteorologist Jani Sorsa told Finnish News Agency STT that parts of southeast Finland have been issued a rainfall warning. Accumulations could reach up to 50 millimetres in some areas during the day, potentially causing local flooding.
"The rain won't be particularly intense at any one point, but it's expected to last long enough that the totals can add up significantly," Sorsa explained.
In southern Finland, conditions are expected to start clearing by Tuesday afternoon. However, in the east, rain may persist throughout the day.
Daytime temperatures will remain below 15 degrees Celsius in the rainiest parts of eastern and south-eastern Finland. In western and central areas, highs are forecast to reach around 20 degrees. In Lapland, temperatures will range from 13 degrees to 20 degrees. The sunniest areas of the south could also approach 20 degrees.
Conditions will improve nationwide on Wednesday, with drier weather expected across the country.
Eastern and northern Finland may still see cloud cover, but broader sunny intervals are likely in the south and west.
